Archive — VION Labs
The engineering record of VION Labs: the equations, measurements and decisions behind VION’s real-time demonstrators, in the order they were made.
What the demonstrators are made of — the equations, the measurements and the decisions, in the order they were made. Every entry is dated from our own logs. A term opens where it stands. These are hints, not blueprints.
Only dates that can be shown are given. The notes below each entry are the ones that open in place on the page; the page also carries small live figures for several of them.

Before the record
Undated · VION Technology · open in the archive
VION’s engineering did not begin with this website. Before it came real-time networked simulations — game-engine systems, vehicle dynamics, low-latency shared worlds — in-vehicle interface studies, and high-concurrency cloud platforms.
This archive begins where the public work begins, on 14 September 2026. What came before is not dated here: we keep only the dates we can show.
Worlds shared by many people at once, where every machine must agree on where a car is and how fast it moves. What remains of that discipline in everything here: fixed time steps, deterministic state, latency hidden by prediction.
stateₙ₊₁ = f(stateₙ, inputsₙ, h) — the same on every machine
A car’s display is a safety system before it is a picture: one state, every control bound to it, nothing decorative. VION OS, inside VION Executive, is the visible continuation of that work.
Platforms built for many simultaneous users: ownership of data, isolation between tenants, failure that degrades instead of falling. A VION platform product is in preparation.
01 — Organism (2026-09-14 — 2026-09-24)
The V as matter
2026-09-14 · vion.technology · Organism · open in the archive
The mark on vion.technology is not an image. It is several thousand nodes sampled from the V’s own vector path, joined in a reciprocal nearest-neighbour graph and held by a membrane integrated at a fixed 120 Hz: restoring force, damping, cohesion, viscous drag. It lags, overshoots a little, settles.
Light travels through it along conduction fields traced from the lightning in the V’s void — never on a circle, never on a loop the eye can learn. The renderer has no dependencies: WebGL2, an occlusion pass, instanced hairlines.
A node keeps a neighbour only if the neighbour keeps it too. The graph is symmetric, so a signal that travels out can travel back. The edges are ordered so that any prefix of the list is a valid, thinner graph: quality is lowered by truncation, never by rebuilding.
i ~ j ⇔ j ∈ kNN(i) ∧ i ∈ kNN(j)
Physics advances in steps of exactly 1/120 s, whatever the display. A 60 Hz screen shows every second step; a 144 Hz screen shows the same matter, interpolated between steps. The motion is identical on every device.
xₙ₊₁ = step(xₙ, h), h = 1/120 s shown = xₙ + α (xₙ₊₁ − xₙ), α = remainder / h
Three clocks, one lens
2026-09-19 · vion.technology · Camera · open in the archive
The page runs on three clocks. The visitor’s — scroll, pointer, keys — is authoritative. The story’s moves only when the visitor travels. The organism’s is continuous and never reset, not even when the story begins again.
One lens, 30–34°: the camera moves, it never zooms. It follows the scroll through a single critically damped response — it keeps its momentum, never overshoots, never travels against a reversal, and trails the text by at most 0.45 of the screen’s height.
A spring with exactly enough damping to arrive without swinging past. With ω = 7.2 s⁻¹ the camera covers 63 % of a scroll in about 0.3 s and 90 % in about 0.54 s. Less damping wobbles; more feels late.
ẍ + 2ω ẋ + ω² (x − x*) = 0 x(t) = x* + (A + B t) e^(−ω t)
The interface was glass all along
2026-09-24 · vion.technology · Glass · open in the archive
At the end of the story the page breaks. One rule governed it: the glass never enters the frame — it was always there; only its optical existence becomes perceptible. It is a dielectric sheet about nine millimetres thick at the scene’s scale, found by its reflections, never drawn as an object.
Before it breaks, the header is printed into the pane in the page’s own typefaces. Then the crack network grows from a single point of stress; the pieces carry the light behind them, their broken edges flash as they turn, and the dust hangs in the air for seconds.
In the middle of the story the same glass does not break. It opens like an iris, drawn back into a bead along its own edge.
Index of refraction 1.52; reflection weighted by Schlick’s approximation. Two parallel faces only offset what stands behind them — flat glass does not distort. A face bowed by pressure deviates the ray, and blue a hair more than red.
F(θ) = F₀ + (1 − F₀)(1 − cos θ)⁵ F₀ = ((n − 1) / (n + 1))² ≈ 0.043 (n = 1.52)
At the instant of the break, the frame the camera saw is sealed into every piece through one view-projection matrix, read at the piece’s rest position. Each shard carries its own fragment of the header as it falls; while the pane is whole, the printed header still answers the pointer.
Grown in time, not drawn: a crushed knot; radial cracks leaving it at uneven angles, wandering, forking at shallow angles; concentric cracks snapping between neighbouring radials, polygonal and incomplete. Every later crack ends on an earlier one — a test fails if two ever cross. The pattern was calibrated against photographs of real impact fractures.

A car drawn from its design lines
2026-09-23 · VION Executive · Body · open in the archive
VION Executive is modelled from a subdivision cage whose edge loops are its design lines: twenty-two stations along the car, ten rows around the half section. Every face remembers its cell, so the panels separate exactly along real loops. Each gap is inset 2.2 mm and rolled 7 mm inward — a gap reads as a gap.
The assembly is authored once and played as sampled transforms: 3.17 s, chassis to details. Three levels of detail travel as compressed geometry; the body carries no textures at all.
A coarse mesh of quads that a subdivision surface smooths into the body. Because its loops are the design lines, the shoulder, the belt and the roof edge are creased by weight — 0.62, 0.60, 0.72 — rather than modelled twice.
158,000, 78,000 and 35,000 triangles, quantised and compressed with meshoptimizer into 523, 351 and 183 KB. The materials are numbers, not images: nothing to decode, nothing to wait for.
One state, no decorative controls
2026-09-24 · VION OS · In-vehicle HMI · open in the archive
Inside the car a pillar-to-pillar display runs VION OS: the driver’s cluster, a map-first centre, the passenger’s side and eleven applications — navigation with routes found on the city’s real road graph, media, phone, energy, vehicle, climate, seats, cameras, drive, light, settings.
Under it there is one state. The display, the keyboard, a gamepad and touch dispatch the same actions; the drive model, the lamps, the doors and the sound read the same values. A touch on the screen in 3D is cast into its texture and lands where a finger would.
A* over the directed road graph extracted from OpenStreetMap: distance as the cost, the straight line as the estimate. The estimate never exceeds the truth, so the route found is the shortest the graph allows.
f(n) = g(n) + h(n), h(n) = ‖n − goal‖ ≤ true cost
A test walks every control and fails if one changes nothing, or changes what it does not name. A locked car keeps its door shut. The interface redraws only when something changes, or while a 150–350 ms transition runs.
The pointer becomes a ray; the ray meets the screen’s mesh; the hit’s texture coordinate becomes a pixel of the interface. The 3D display is used exactly as a flat one would be.

Sound without recordings
2026-09-23 · VION Executive · Sound · open in the archive
Every sound the car makes is synthesised in the browser: the motors, the road, the wind, the doors, the tick and tock of the indicators. No recording, no sample library — nothing anyone else made.
Each sound is placed where it happens on the car and heard through a head-related transfer function. Step inside, and the outside is low-passed to 900 Hz and lowered, as the car’s insulation would do it.
The machine’s voice is locked to its rotor: the motor’s electrical order and the first reduction gear’s mesh, two thin lines that rise exactly with speed. Road and wind are broadband noise shaped by speed and surface.
f_e = 2 · p · n (p = 4 pole pairs, n in rev/s) f_mesh = z · n (z = 23 teeth)
We hear direction by how the head and the outer ear filter a sound. An HRTF panner applies that filter to each source, so in headphones a sound has a place — ahead, above, behind — not only a side.
A city compiled from open data
2026-09-25 · Baku · World · open in the archive
The drive takes place in a 3.2 × 2.9 km slice of Baku — Neftçilər prospekti, the boulevard, the old city, the Flame Towers hill — generated directly to glTF from OpenStreetMap and NASA SRTM elevation: 1,312 buildings with their own facade measurements, 4,343 street lamps, road ribbons resampled every four metres.
Street light is baked into the geometry; only the car’s two headlamps are live lights. Every window opens onto a room behind it, drawn by the facade’s shader.
Each lamp’s pool is integrated once, when the city is built: inverse square, times the cosine of incidence, cut at 32 m. At night the whole city is lit for the cost of reading a colour.
E(p) = Σᵢ Iᵢ cos θᵢ / dᵢ², dᵢ ≤ 32 m
Interior mapping: from the window’s pixel a ray is cast into an imagined box — ceiling, floor, walls — and the nearest wall it meets is drawn. Rooms with depth and parallax, without a single extra triangle.
A bicycle model at 120 Hz
2026-09-25 · VION Executive · Dynamics · open in the archive
The car is a planar dynamic bicycle model stepped at a fixed 120 Hz: 2,350 kg, a 3.05 m wheelbase, a yaw inertia of 4,200 kg·m², tyres that saturate on a friction circle, one-pedal regeneration at 0.12 g.
A native physics engine was considered and not used: for a car on a height field among extruded footprints, this takes a few microseconds a step. Its tests drive it through 24,000 random steps without a single NaN, and at top speed it never passes through a wall.
Each axle is folded into one wheel on the centreline. Two equations — lateral force and yaw moment — carry what a driver feels: understeer, oversteer, the rear stepping out.
m (v̇_y + v_x r) = F_yf + F_yr I_z ṙ = a F_yf − b F_yr
A tyre has one budget of grip. Braking and cornering draw on the same circle; ask for both, and the force is clipped to its radius — that is where a drift begins.
√(F_x² + F_y²) ≤ μ F_z F_y = −C_α α (until the circle)
Nine devices, one picture
2026-09-26 · All demonstrators · Performance · open in the archive
Each renderer measures its own frame cost and climbs down a resolution ladder before it gives up any effect. The heavy files of the next step are fetched at idle, while the visitor is still looking at the current one.
Measured across nine device profiles, with full and with reduced motion: a laptop on battery and a desktop with a discrete GPU see the same picture, at different costs.
Over budget, the drawing buffer steps down; with headroom, it steps back up — with a dead band, so it never oscillates. Resolution is given up first because the eye forgives it first; effects are the last resort.
03 — Flight (2026-09-30)
Flight under an envelope
2026-09-30 · VION STRATOS · Envelope · open in the archive
VION STRATOS is an all-electric concept business jet, flown over Baku at night. Its flight law holds load factor and bank, up to 67°. Above the law stands VION GUARD.
GUARD predicts the path eight seconds ahead against the highest obstacle beneath it, with the height a recovery would lose. When the margin is gone it flies the aircraft out — wings level, a 14° climb to 180 m over what lies ahead, a smooth level-off — and hands control back only when level and clear, never while the pilot is still pushing.
The stick does not move a surface; it asks for a load factor. The flight computer finds the deflection that delivers it, and holds the bank when the stick is released — as fly-by-wire aircraft are flown.
n = L / W = ½ ρ v² S C_L / (m g)
The critical height is the tallest obstacle within about a kilometre, plus 80 m. The path ahead is tested against the highest point within ±150 m of it. A dive steeper than −18° with the stick forward, a stall or overspeed call the same calm recovery.
Screens that cost nothing to look at
2026-09-30 · VION STRATOS · Avionics · open in the archive
The cockpit’s instruments — the primary flight display, the head-up display, a map with live traffic, the flight management screen — are drawn into opaque canvases, each on its own clock: the HUD at 30 Hz, the PFD at 24, the charts at 10, the rest at 6.
The cockpit’s median frame went from 40 ms to 6 ms. When the instruments wake, a V of points condenses, lightning strikes, and the aircraft writes its name in a contrail — on every screen at once.
No more than two glasses are uploaded in any frame; the screens take turns. The eye reads a 24 Hz instrument as continuous; the GPU sees two small uploads instead of eight.
A letter that leaves the atmosphere
2026-09-30 · VION STRATOS · Transmission · open in the archive
In STRATOS’s lounge there is a laptop. A message written on it reaches VION — and then comes the film nothing on the page announces: the aircraft climbs out of the atmosphere, a data packet races past the planets, the sender’s own address is written in particles over the VION planet, and a black hole takes everything in.
The black hole is not a picture. It is a lens applied to the finished frame: the ring, the flipped image inside it, the disc bent over the shadow are not drawn — they fall out of one equation. All of it is compiled while the visitor is still typing, so the film never stops to think.
The point-mass lens equation: what appears at an angle θ from the hole comes from β behind it. Where β is zero the source becomes a ring — the Einstein ring. The shadow is drawn at about 2.6 Schwarzschild radii, with a hair-thin photon ring.
β = θ − θ_E² / θ
04 — Headset (2026-10-07 — 2026-10-08)
The headset as the interface
2026-10-07 · VION VISION · Headset · open in the archive
In VION Labs a robot puts on VION VISION, and the demonstrators are seen through it. The headset can be lifted at any moment — in the studio, at the wheel, in the cockpit — and the world becomes a screen on a desk.
The sound changes with it. Every place has its own acoustics, and through lifted ear cups the bass thins and the stereo narrows, as it would.
An optical transition, not a fade: the lens is a window of fixed radius at a fixed distance from the eye. Lifted, the window leaves the visual axis — its gasket out of focus, a little light leaking round its edge.
Each space has an impulse response generated from a few numbers: early reflections from its walls, then a decaying dense tail — the studio 1.7 s, a Baku street 0.9 s, the hangar 3.2 s. Distance takes the highs away: around 18 kHz falls toward 6 kHz at fifty metres.
y(t) = (x ∗ h)(t) h(t) = early(t) + n(t) · e^(−6.91 t / T₆₀)
The last line
2026-10-07 · VION STRATOS · Kernel · open in the archive
The flight demonstration — a full roll, a vertical loop, inverted flight, a pass in the colours of Azerbaijan — may switch VION GUARD off. Beneath everything sits VION KERNEL.
It sweeps the corridor the aircraft will occupy over the next 2.5 seconds — longer when sinking — a wingspan wide, against the city’s measured heights, and keeps a reserve: 100 m over the ground, 50 m over a tower. Inside the reserve it takes the aircraft upright at full electric thrust, and returns it after 1.2 s clear.
A height field is not every mesh. The kernel samples a corridor; it is not a certified collision test, and its own source says so. What it guarantees is narrower, and honest: within the city’s measured heights, the reserve holds.
Holograms filled by the real download
2026-10-07 · VION Labs · Showroom · open in the archive
In the Labs’ showroom the demonstrators stand as holograms. Press Enter and the hologram fills from the floor up at the rate of the real download. The demonstrator then opens from the same hologram, and a seam of light rises through it: real material below, light above.
The hologram is mathematical, not a texture: a world-space scan that stays one pixel soft at any distance, Fresnel at the silhouette, glitch slices that never cost a frame.
The fill is the bytes actually received of the files the experience opens with — where a size is not given, the files themselves are counted. It is the download, not a timer.
Lines in world space, antialiased by the screen-space derivative of their own coordinate: a line stays one pixel wide whether the car is one metre away or forty.
Nothing drawn without a reason
2026-10-07 · All demonstrators · Power · open in the archive
A still camera, untouched for twenty seconds, falls to thirty frames a second; a menu over a still image draws nothing at all, the last frame held. On a battery below twenty percent, or under thermal pressure, the demonstrators rest sooner, and a hot device is held to sixty.
Programs are compiled before they are needed, in the state they will be drawn in: the first frame of a scene is never its first compile.
On some systems a shader compiled on first use stalls the whole GPU process for seconds. So every program is compiled during the load, against the target it will draw into, with the lights and the environment it will see — then drawn once into a small target to warm it.
Smoke only when the tyres slide
2026-10-08 · VION Executive · Tyres · open in the archive
Tyre smoke exists only while the rear axle actually slides — beyond roughly ten degrees of slip. It is a pool of instanced sheets with a three-dimensional noise body, lit by the street lamps and by the car’s own red tail light.
While the tyres grip it sleeps, and costs nothing.
A fixed pool of 320 sheets, reused in order — nothing is allocated while driving. Near the camera they thin out, so the lens never sits inside a cloud.
